Most radio and TV networks work this way:
STEP ONE. Salesperson calls companies, begging them to buy commercials.
STEP TWO. The production department creates the commercials for companies willing to pay big bucks.
STEP THREE. Network plays 12-18 minutes of commercials every hour.
There's nothing really wrong with this, except that about one-fifth of the time you turn on one of these channels, you're hearing or seeing commercials instead of MUSIC! That's at least two and a half months of commercials every year! RadioU and TVU don't play commercials, so we get to unleash 57 minutes of music every hour and they don't! Ha... so there!
So where does our money come from then? Listeners and viewers just like you. For over ten years, people have been sending us money so we can stay on the air.
It seems that people are always shocked to learn that literally 100% of our monthly operating budget comes from donations sent in by listeners and viewers. No companies paying us big bucks to get their commercials played.
Why would anyone send money to a radio or TV network? Maybe they just like the music and want others to be able to have it, too. Maybe they've come to know more about the incredible impact this music has on thousands of peoples' lives every day.
Whatever the reason, we're thankful to these people. Without them, we literally might not be on the air, let alone be growing into new areas!
