...But it isn't. Yet.
Think about it. You expect music to be free. After all, you have the "right" to listen to music for free if you want to. Or do you?
// One CD: $13.99.
// iPod: $249-$349.
// iTunes/Musicmatch download: $.99 each.
// Napster/Rhapsody membership: $9.95-14.99 a month.
// Illegal downloads: an RIAA lawsuit.
// Sirus/XM: $12.95 a month plus up to $199 for the receiver.
// Commercial FM stations: 12-15+ minutes of commercials per hour.
// MTV/VH1: at least $35 a month to your cable/satellite provider.
So actually, your "free" music isn't really. But we think it should be. For tens of thousands of listeners to RadioU and viewers of TVU Music Television every week, it already is.
Here at RadioU and TVU, we don't charge a monthly subscription fee. We don't charge a per-song fee. We don't play 12+ minutes of commercials every hour -- do you realize that would be two and a half months' worth of commercials per year?! And you don't need an expensive portable music player to hear us.
Basically, we think that the music we play is too important to too many people for us to start charging them to listen to it! Music means something. To some of our listeners and viewers, it means everything. If you don't believe us, head on over to our stories page for a while. We want the music to be FREE to as many people as possible. That's why we hope YOU'LL be willing to help us pay for this thing.
